Disgusting Sisters – TGIF

Disgusting Sisters deliver a weekend anthem for the burnt-out masses with “TGIF,” their second single following last year’s “Killing It.” The London-based duo of real-life sisters Jules and Josephine craft chaotic electronic pop that captures the Jekyll-and-Hyde transformation from weekday drudgery to Friday night release.

Built on what one reviewer calls a “super-elastic beat,” the track bounces between deadpan vocal passages that mirror office tedium and explosive choruses packed with energy. Jules drums while Josephine makes films in Paris, but they came together last Christmas during a Twin Peaks binge to accidentally start a band after writing a song about their mum’s dog.

“TGIF” tells the story of someone trapped in a 9-to-5 routine who morphs into an entirely different person by Friday, “like a werewolf unleashed under a full moon,” as the band puts it. The lyrics nail the frustration perfectly, with lines about pointless office gossip and weekend small talk that anyone stuck in corporate life will recognise.

The sisters, raised between the UK and France and bonded by emo music and horror movie obsessions, call their sound “loud, weird & emotionally charged bangers.” After support from NME and Radio 1, plus touring with Two Door Cinema Club, they’re building momentum with music that mines the spirit of the times while delivering genuinely catchy hooks.
